Everyone’s heard the influencers promising you’ll earn 500k a week by selling templates on Canva. While that probably won’t happen, it can be a profitable side hustle. But how do you do it? Do you mail an image of a template? Do I have to read 40 pages of rambling before I can find an actual tutorial? If you’ve also asked yourself these questions, this is the guide for you!

Lately, there’s been an Etsy trend of people looking for Canva templates. Canva is essentially a graphic design platform that is accessible for people who aren’t familiar with graphic design since it has its own free templates, graphics, and fonts.
This is where it gets tricky, because it also has some Pro elements that you can get into legal trouble if you use incorrectly. So before you start selling templates, if you’re planning on using Pro elements, just read their terms.
I’ve made templates on Etsy that range from wedding invitations to matchbox templates. Even when I started out, matchbox templates were very sought after, so if you don’t have an Etsy account I’d recommend making one.
If you’re less familiar with graphic design, I’d recommend using the free elements on Canva to create wedding invitation or business card templates.
Once you make your template, you click the share button in the top right corner, click the eclipses (…), and click Template Link to create your link.
With Etsy, when someone buys your template, they’ll get a digital file. This is where you’ll put your link.
Once you have your template link, go to Canva, your phone notes, or any other word processor, and type up a message for a buyer.
Example: Thank you for your order! Access your template at (link) and message us if you have any questions or access issues!
Depending on the process you chose, you may just paste the link or add a hyperlink, and the process for making hyperlinks differs by platform.
Once you’ve made your digital file, save it as a pdf and upload it to your Etsy listing.
To upload a file to your Etsy listing, it has to be listed as a Digital Item.

After adding more product details, you’ll click + Add File and add the pdf file to your listing.
