If you're an artist who wants to make enough money from their art to continue pursuing art as a hobby, you don't need to spend hours a day on social media to achieve your goal.
While social media is helpful for building an online presence, it isn’t necessary for making a profit from your art.
Outside of social media, you can make a profit by:
Signing up for in-person markets
Contacting local stores who may be interested in selling your art/prints of your art as greeting cards
Selling your art on ebay without promoting it elsewhere
Setting up a digital product on Etsy for passive income
Unfortunately, no methods of income are guaranteed, but by having multiple streams of revenue (such as an Etsy shop with digital products and participating in markets), your potential customer base and income potential increases.
Most artists have been drawn to social media because of how easily large amounts of potential customers can be reached through a simple post, but many are overwhelmed by the concept of promoting themselves online. Some don't know where to start, and some do, but have a lack of time or energy that prevents them from pursuing social media as a potential revenue stream.
Whatever method you choose to pursue, remember to be gentle with yourself. Marketing as an artist is intimidating, especially because you're promoting something incredibly personal that people may not understand. But there are so many people who appreciate art and respect those who make it. In the age of AI slop, it's important to make something real, and when you do that, you're already ahead of the game in many respects.
